'00 2.0L wont start - no turnover...

Hello all,

My trusty 2.0L is giving me grief this morning and unfortunately without a way to get to work at the moment.

It is unable to turn over. The battery has juice but the bloody thing wont turn over. Unfortunately I dont have a working volt meter so I can confirm whether or not the starter is getting anything from the battery.

Any ideas on anything else that I can try?

EDIT: When I got into the car this morning, it turned over once then wouldnt do it again and stopped. This is the way it has been sitting. It was working without issues last night. Nothing to suggest something wouldve gone wrong this morning.

Check for corrosion, sounds like that might be your issue. Take the terminals off the battery, clean 'em up a little and put them back on. If that doesnt do the trick, trace the ground that is on the same wire/cable as the battery negative and check for corrosion.

If thats not it, you may indeed have a starter issue.

Used contact cleaner, scrubbed those babies got em nice and clean and nadda.

do you hear anything when you crank? is the starter trying to turn? try tapping the starter with hammer.

Tapped the starter, nada.

I hear a hum when I turn the key not sure if thats fuel pump or something else though.

Friend came by and helped me bump start the car and its currently at jason's. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I had the same problem with my car, it looked like the battery was OK, but it just didn't have enough juice to get it going. I have a good replacement for your car for sale.

Haha thanks Ric. Unfortunately my voltmeter is broken and I wasnt able to double check the battery. So it could be that but I dont think so.

A voltmeter wouldn't have helped, you need to load test it to see how much amperage it was putting out. I would bet its the battery too, especially if its older.
