1998 passat making metal clanking noise near passanger rear wheel.

I have a 98 passat 1.8lt with stock suspension, recently i've been hearing a metal on metal clanking noise near rear passenger side wheel when going over bumps, even really small ones like cracks on the road, but the noise does not occur if my foot is on the brakes even really slightly while going over bumps. Any ideas?

so would i not have to change the struts? when i test it and bounce the car the back end bounces more then the front but eventually stops after 2 or 3 extra bounces, the front end is really stiff and barely bounces.

i've read around and alot of people are saying that coil springs rarely need to be changed, only time is when it's either broken or damaged from heating them to lower the vehicle, so is my problem really jus the struts instead.

ohh i see now, the coils on my car arent surrounding the shock absorbers like in others, so yeah ur right, it must be the coil, because the car actually doesn't bounce all that much when i tested it again. thanks man, appreciate it.

no problem. Ride height on one corner may be lower if it is a busted spring. But it sounds like it

heyy man i took it to the mechanic turned out that the brake pad wasn't stuck to the calliper with that silicone adhesive lol, so it turned out to be the easiest fix on my car so far, but still appreciate the help man.
