    Major brake issue!

I was driving on the 401 last night when I pressed the breaks it felt like my back right tire blew. The car came to a pretty quick halt. When I got out I realized the tire was fine but my rotor was red hot. I tried to drive slow and it felt somewhat fine but as soon as I hit the brakes boom it was back a loud banging sound.

It appears that the brakes are not releasing from the rotor.. the hand brake is extremely tough to even lift up.

Anyone know what this is and what it’s going to roughly cost to fix?

    Cheers.

A red hot rotor is usually a seized calliper. Not sure what would cause it to bang like that. Pull that wheel and investigate. I wouldn't want that to happen in the snow, there could be some serious grief.

Definitely a seized caliper. It could just need a good cleaning/lube job, but more than likely, it will need to be replaced/rebuilt. Even worse, if you drove through a puddle or rapidly cooled the rotor when it was red hot, it may have warped and may also need to be replaced.

It *might* just be seized slider bolts, but typically you won't get a rotor that hot unless the whole caliper is seized.
