2004 GTI 1.8T rear hatch lock mech.

    Hello All,

I have a question on the 2004 GTI 1.8T rear hatch lock mech and whether or not the key must be left in to manuall open hatch. I could have sworn that I only had to turn the key then it unlocked and I could take the key out and then open hatch... but now as soon as I turn key back to take out it will not stay unlocked. Dealer said that the key needs to stay in to open... and I loosing my minde or are they trying to get out of a warrenty claim?

    Thanks,
    JC

I can take my key out and it stays unlocked, and actually i guarantee you can because when my cylinder seized it seized in the open position and it obviously had no in it, when i put the new cylinder in still i can take the key out when its in the open position.
