I run a AEM CAI. No performance gain what so ever on 1.8T's. Makes cool noise. Im doing a shaved air box with a ITG panel filter soon.

From what Ive heard the only intake that add HP for MK3 VR6's are the Turn2 intakes otherwise its just another filter on a stick

I've also got a "cold air" noisemaker on a 1.8T.

Mine is Evolution Motorsports one. It's made of plastic.

The Carbonio ones are nice, the carbon fibre looks pretty. $$$ though.

The Evoms short ram is by far one of the cleanest aftermarket set ups ever made..

I also like the look of the Eurospec/ITG short ram

Both those above short rams create a closed box when the hood is closed which is awesome and it doesnt let the heat from the engine in..

MkIV 2.0 had AEM, lots of noise, did feel like small gains on butt dyno. Have a plastic Evolution Motorsports on my A3 2.0T cant say if there are any gains but you def hear the air coming in and turbo spooling more.

what i want is something that benefits the car both in breathing and HP gains, without losing too much torque !!

noise has no clout for me when i will purchase a CAI.....

    EVOMS FTW!

I had one on my mk5 2.0t and loved it

Def gonna get one for the VR...eventually

I have a K&N panel filter right now

nothing is really worth the money on a mk3 vr. . except for the TURN 2 cold air intake, but they are no longer produced. .

best result would be , gut the snorkel and swiss cheese your air box and drop in a K&N filter, sounds really nice

Whatever you do, don't get a CAI that goes out and down behind the bumper. I had the injen intake behind my bumper and every time it rained I was sucking up water. Keep it short ram in the bay.

Not to discredit anyone, just a general question. Has anyone dyno'd before and after with CAI to get real numbers for torque and HP? I don't get how you would gain HP but lose torque from this kind of system.

    HP = tq * rpm / 5252.

It's pretty easy to lose torque/hp down low but gain some up top with intakes, it all comes down to flow and velocity.
