    seems easy enough. what are the benefits to doing this? Something I should try?

    no benefits, you only do it if you change your shifter linkage

    well it works but you cant lock the shifter. so you need a friend to help

    ya i think i found out what was wrong. I had the screw on the lockdown plate in too much. I let off the nut a couple of threads so the head of the bolt would be further out. (if any of that made sense)
