    GM Rail Yard Oshawa

Just got this emailed to me at work. Happened this morning in Oshawa.

This incident happened about a hour ago in the Oshawa CP Rail yard which ships out the GM vehicles.
One of the car men who attaches and detaches the car haulers, accidentally unhooked a set of train cars without having the brakes applied.
The Oshawa rail yard has a slight incline to it, so when the set of cars was unhooked from the engine it started to roll down the hill, it smashed through the stop block and then through the fence and continue into the parking lot where GM stores the new vehicles that come off the line.
Over 300 vehicles were damaged. Enjoy the pictures.

They'll just crush em and rebuild. Prolly treat it as a crash test car and change up their inventory count on the lost product.

Averaging the car cost to say, $25,000 per car, in one fell swoop of fergetfelness (spelled wrong on purpose), he managed to rack up 7.5 MILLION (retail) dollars worth of damages in a few seconds. Noice, mad respek.

It is all covered under CP rails insurance, it is a write off for them and all cars involved will be cut up and sold off as scrap. They have an agreement where they only pay out the whole sale cost of the inventory.
And yes the union will protect the people involved but they will pulled out of service pending a statement and also be tested for cause. (drug and alcohol use)

Sometimes, if the Union brings it to arbitration from the outcome of the statment (s) the company will cover off the loss of wages that were incurred during the period of being out of service.
