Been a pretty frustrating (and costly, so far) month or so. Here's the problem:

2004 Jetta GLS. Brought it into the dealership for 110,000 mile service and to have them check out a problem I was having - the door indicator light was coming on spontaneously while driving and with all the doors securely closed. When this happened, the dome light and all interior lights would also come on and could not be turned off, as if the car thought a door was in fact open. On top of that, my car alarm would occasionally go off spontaneously and then stop on its own.

To "correct" this problem, the dealer replaced the hood sensor and door lock, almost $1,000. Within 30 minutes of driving after picking the car up, the same problem with the open door indicator light and interior lights happened again.

I returned it to the dealer, and after a couple days, they claimed they could not replicate the issue and could find nothing else wrong. I asked if it would help if I got video of the problem, as I was confident it would happen again. They agreed this would be a good idea, so I took the car home and kept my cell phone handy when driving.

About a week went by with no issues, and then ... same problem happened again while I was playing the stereo very loudly. This time, I was able to get video of it and made arrangements to bring the car back. When I arrived at the dealership, the lights were all still on and I was able to get the service rep to see it and verify that it was happening just as I'd described (I'd sent them the video of it earlier).

This time, they thought it was something called the "comfort module." They replaced it and basically told me they were just guessing that this was the issue. They waved labor costs on putting this part in, but that was all they offered me.

Well, FIFTEEN MINUTES into my drive home, the lights came on again for about five seconds, then went out. The next morning, I was able to get extensive video of the problem happening again, this time for about 15 minutes solid. I'll include the video link below. When it happened on this occasion, I was listening to talk radio at a normal volume.

So, at this point, I've put about $1,400 into this issue with nothing resolved. The dealer wants to look at it again and says they will not charge for anything this time and that if they are able to pinpoint the problem and realize that any of the other parts they put in were "unnecessary," they will reimburse me. Their claim is that the parts they replaced tested faulty. My problem is that, whether they tested faulty or not, the replacements did not fix the problem I asked them to fix.

Anyway, sorry for this novel, but I'm really hoping someone can offer some suggestions on what this issue could be. I'm also obviously not willing to just sit back and eat all these costs, so I'm trying to gather "intel" in case I need to pursue this issue further.

You can see the issue happening most recently here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0upOX_FcLtg

And again, so far the dealer has:
1. Replaced hood sensor (have not had alarm problem since then)
2. Replaced door lock (no effect)
3. Replaced comfort module (no effect)

Although the alarm problem is no longer happening, the light issue continues unchanged. Sometimes it will go days without happening, sometimes it will happen every day for a few days. At one point, it was definitely happening when I cranked the stereo, but then at other points, it has come on with the stereo playing at normal to low volume.

I am totally stumped. So are the "master technicians" at the dealership. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
